Popular for its mysterious shallow lake
about 2 meters wide surrounded by rocks-strewn
glaciers and snow-clad peaks, Roopkund Trek
is a thrilling trekking expedition with
moderate challenges. Situated in the interior
of the Chamoli district in the lap of Trishul
massif, Roopkund spells mystery with
recovery
of some 500-800 years old human skeletons
and remains of horses, which emerge every
time the snow melts, but still remain unexplained.
The starting point of the trek is Debal,
which is easily approachable by motor from
Almora town. The trek trail passes through
lush green grassy land and conifer forests
tightly fitted into the slopes of hills,
providing trekkers a flavor of nature and
revitalizing their body and mind. The trek
thereafter moves its way along the Pinder
River to approach its possible culmination
at Homekund via Shail Samudra glacier and
then moves on to Ghat or Nandprayag.
